Machinery with a Mission: The Chain of Kindness that Built Coram’s Fields’ New Play Zone

Now our new Junior Play Zone is open, let’s look back at how it was constructed.

Behind every climbing frame and stretch of safe play space at Coram’s Fields’ new Junior Play Zone is a network of businesses and individuals who stepped forward to help make it happen.

The planning stages

As construction began, practical challenges quickly emerged. Heavy machinery was needed to put the play zone together, secure fencing had to be installed around the site, and timelines were tight. Like many charities navigating rising costs, every expense mattered.

That is where our partners stepped in.

Building the expertise

Through connections built around the project, support began to gather momentum. SCS Railways, supported by Rhian Gohil, helped initiate conversations around sourcing equipment support for the site. Flannery Plant Hire, supported by Odee Pessu, provided essential machinery which helped works progress smoothly throughout construction. GAP Group, supported by Tracey Wright, supplied fencing to help safely secure the site from our eager young visitor during the build.

It was great to bring Flannery and Coram’s Fields together to help bring this project to life. As soon as we heard about Coram’s Fields’ plans, we knew Flannery’s support would be a valuable addition. This project is a great example of what can be achieved through positive collaboration,” says SCS.

Flannery are also supporting Coram’s Fields with a video documenting the journey of the Play Zone, helping capture the collaboration and community effort behind the project.

“We’re proud to have supported Coram’s Fields on a project that will have such a lasting impact for children and families. For us, it’s about more than providing machinery, it’s about being part of a wider effort to create safe, inclusive spaces where young people can play, grow and thrive. This project really shows what’s possible when businesses come together and use their resources to support communities in a practical and meaningful way. It’s especially rewarding to see the space now being brought to life by the children, the smiles on their faces say it all,” says Flannery.

Each contribution solved a practical problem. Together, they helped unlock the project.

“At GAP Group we are always happy to support any project that makes the lives of our children happier,” says GAP Group.

What stood out most was not just the support itself, but the collaborative spirit behind it. Companies coordinated logistics, adapted timelines and worked around the realities of a busy central London children’s park operating seven days a week.

The result is now visible every day in the laughter, movement and confidence of the children using the space.

The new Play Zone was designed to create a more inclusive and engaging environment for children of different ages and abilities. Since opening, it has already become a vibrant part of the park for local families, schools and community groups.

Creating impact, together

Too often, partnerships between charities and businesses are viewed only through the lens of financial donations. This project showed the value of something broader: expertise shared generously, resources mobilised quickly and businesses using what they already have to create meaningful impact.

As costs continue to rise across the charity sector, support of every kind has never been more important. Pro-bono services, in-kind donations, equipment, expertise and practical support can make a transformational difference to the children and families we work with.

If your business may be able to support Coram’s Fields through pro-bono or in-kind support, we would love to hear from you at fundraising@coramsfields.org.uk
