Coram’s Fields Youth Centre has seen an incredible run of achievements in recent months, with our young people and staff taking part in inspiring projects, creative work and community action. Catch up below on all the success, from our award winners at this year’s Achievement Awards, to the Girls Group’s triumph in a borough-wide film competition, and the remarkable community effort that supported those affected by the hurricane in Jamaica.
Girls Group Take First Place
After weeks of hard work following the summer break, the Girls Group, led by Moji Akintoye, our female Youth Worker, completed a short film for the Camden Youth Multimedia Competition as part of Youth Safety Week. Their film, entitled “The Truth Behind the Lie”, imagined Camden in 2030 and explored young people’s concerns about online bullying and the rise of artificial intelligence.
The group were thrilled to learn they had been shortlisted and invited to Camden Town Hall. Sitting in the council chamber to watch their work on the big screen was an achievement in itself, but the celebrations didn’t stop there. The girls took home joint first place, earning £500 in funding and gift vouchers for the group.
"To be named winners of this competition is an honour, all our work together as a group paid off in the end and we enjoyed every second of creating our winning short film!!"
TC, Young Person
Their film has now been spotlighted at the event and stands as an impressive example of youth creativity and social awareness – we are all incredibly proud of them.
Celebrating Success at the Achievement Awards
Our Youth Centre shone brightly at this year’s Achievement Awards Ceremony at The Shaw Theatre. Six of our young people were recognised for their efforts and achievements, and we were thrilled to see our very own Deenah Ali receive the Leader Award for her outstanding work this year.
“It was really surprising to get this award. I really appreciate you nominating me. It motivates me to continue this work.”
Deenah Ali, Youth Worker
Deenah has shown remarkable dedication to young people, particularly through her leadership of the Generations Project — a project that supports children as they transition from our younger services into the Youth Programme as they become adolescents. She has shaped sessions with new workshops, meaningful trips, and engaging sports activities that have brought the group together in new ways.
The evening ended on a high as our young person, Hala, closed the show with a beautifully personal rendition of Jorja Smith’s On My Mind.
Coming Together to Support Hurricane Relief
Coram’s Fields’ young people and staff teamed up with actress Jasmine Jobson to run a major community collection in support of those affected by the devastating hurricane in Jamaica. Families across the island have faced severe loss, extensive damage to their homes, and significant disruption to daily life, leaving many without essential items.
Clothes, books, toys and a wide range of necessities came pouring in. In fact, we received so many generous donations that the collection quickly grew far beyond what we had anticipated!
The atmosphere across the Saturday and Sunday was inspiring. Young people and staff gave up their free time to sort items, organise donations and welcome members of the community. Jasmine also spent valuable time speaking with the young people, sparking great conversations and adding something special to the experience.
We were genuinely overwhelmed by the generosity shown. The support from volunteers, families and the wider neighbourhood reminded us how powerful community action can be, especially when coming together to support those in Jamaica who need it most right now.
