An update on our paddling pool and the local hosepipe ban.
We know that many of our visitors are aware of the current Thames Water Temporary Use Ban (hosepipe ban). Having received a few questions about how this affects our park and paddling pool, we want to share how we are staying both compliant and open.
Why is the pool still open?
As a registered charity operating a public park, our paddling pool is classified as a public community facility rather than a private domestic pool. Under the Thames Water guidelines, public, commercial, and charity-run recreational facilities are exempt from the standard hosepipe restrictions.
This pool is a vital free resource for local families during the warm summer months, and we are legally permitted to continue filling and maintaining it so children have a safe place to cool down.
How we are saving water
While we are legally exempt, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. To ensure we are not wasting water, we have completely stopped using hosepipes and sprinklers to water the park’s lawns, grass, and decorative flowerbeds.
