The Captain’s Cup 2018: In Review

Last Sunday, eight leading law firms gathered on the sports pitches to take part in The Captain’s Cup, an inter legal firm football tournament, established as a new annual event to raise vital funds for the upkeep of our park and services. The participating firms were: Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, DLA Piper UK, Forsters, Reed Smith, Hogan Lovells, Simmons & Simmons, Herbert Smith Freehills and Payne Hicks Beach.

Big congratulations go to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, who narrowly bested Hogan Lovells in the final to take home the cup. Well done also to Reed Smith, who won the plate against Simmons & Simmons.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Forensic Risk Alliance, which covered the event costs, the amount raised from all the participating firms, a fantastic £8,000, will go directly towards our work supporting local children and young people. A wonderful legacy of the tournament sponsorship is that several young people from our Sports Programme were able to go on and complete a FA Level 1 Refereeing course and were able to officiate over the matches. The completion of this course means that these young people are able to take on part-time work refereeing in local leagues and tournaments.
