Dear Footballers,
Following further announcements from the government yesterday, with regards the measures to control the spread of the Coronavirus, we have taken the difficult decision to close our football pitches for all activity from Friday 20th March. This includes all regular hires, ad-hoc bookings and access to our pitches for children and young people for free play.
We appreciate that this will cause considerable disruption for people, not least for the local children and families that use our football pitches every single day. However, in light of the government advice, we feel that we have a responsibility to support people in their efforts to socially distance and that continuing to open our pitches, is at odds with this.
As many of you will be aware, Coram’s Fields is a children’s charity, providing vital support to the local community through our park, playground and community services. The income raised through the hire of our football pitches is our single largest income source, accounting for nearly a quarter of our annual income and we have enjoyed the support of many of those using our facilities for many years, in some cases decades.
For all those that have paid in advance for their bookings, we are working on a plan to issue credit notes to be redeemed at a later date and will be in touch with more details, as soon as we have these. However, for those that can, we are asking people to consider either maintaining their support by continuing to pay their fees during the pitch closure, or by making a donation to the charity, equal to that of your pitch hire or any other amount that is affordable to you. We appreciate for many this will be very difficult to justify or simply not feasible however, such is the reliance of the charity on income received from our football pitches, we ask that you give some consideration to this if you are in a position to do so.
