Out of the Office and Into the Community: Googlers Support Coram’s Fields

The first thing that struck us as we welcomed a Google group on the first day of our 8-week volunteer series was their overwhelmingly open-minded attitude.

This time, we were trying something new. As a charity that manages a seven-and-a-half-acre children-only space, we needed more regular hands-on volunteers who weren’t afraid to tackle any job that the summer day and a busy park required. The Google team was exactly the right fit for such a project!

Their personalised, ad hoc help to our small Grounds Team meant very little prediction or notice of the nature of the jobs, and the Googlers understood the assignment. They tackled whatever was put in front of them, all with an easy-going attitude, creativity, and a sense of humour.

Special thanks go to Gogo Roberts, who came for two weeks in a row, and of course to Duncan Watts, who coordinated it all.

In total, 46 people helped Coram’s Fields look and feel its best this summer, which saw 70,000 to 80,000 children enjoy our facilities completely free of charge in a safe environment where play and development happen, and memories are made.

We hope to repeat and surpass this success next year.
